IN MEMORY OF DAMU SMITH (51-06)____________________________

“A ‘BOLD LEADER’ & WARRIOR IN OUR COMMUNITY”
All weekend as I started developing G2GB I thought about Damu, how I missed him and really needed to speak with him right now in my life. Since the age of 18 I was involved in my community and was first introduced to the world of creating change through Damu Smith. He was always rallying the hearts and minds of the people. Damu had me and my mother at rallies, marches, events, and workshops for change and social and environmental justice. We marched on the lawn, sat in with Senator Norton in the 18th Street corridor, sang at Howard for South Africa just to name a few. Damu was always trying to ‘put me on’ the stage with my poetry at one of his shows and keeping me abreast of the community. Sometimes I was slow to action but I kept his warrior words in my heart and mind forever. He knew so many people and touched so many lives. I just miss him right now and wish he was here to guide me. I know Damu is a great Ancestor and I’ll light a white candle for him in his honor.

I miss you Damu!

Tara’s daughter, Ria (Daria)

“Create Change in Me, Creates Change in the World”
G2GB is developing from a passion I have always had for community, culture, and the lives of children everywhere. Right now the focus is on inner city youth in our own ‘backyard’; those who are close but we may forget about while struggling to survive in our busy everyday lives. Stay tuned as we transform the vision into reality to nourish the commitment to (give back NOW)! –Peace on your Mission! RIA

What is Genocide?

The term “genocide” did not exist before 1944. It is a very specific term, referring to violent crimes committed against groups with the intent to destroy the existence of the group. Human rights, as laid out in the U.S. Bill of Rights or the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, concern the rights of individuals.
